Thunderbird Storm (2011 - Up) Touring Shield System
Quick-Release Adjustable Windshield System for your Triumph Thunderbird Storm (2011 - Up)
Transform your ride
MadStad's patented adjustable shield system allows riders to adjust the height and angle of their motorcycle windshield resulting in much smoother airflow, better wind protection and a more comfortable ride than any fixed windshield can provide. Better still, this system is quickly detachable without tools so you can switch back and forth easily from touring shield to naked bike.
What's included in the kit
Our complete drop-in system requires no modification and includes everything needed to mount and position the shield:
- Fork-mount quick-release base plates
- Quick-detach adjustable windshield brackets
- Touring windshield
Additional optional components:
- Quick-detach lower deflectors (create a smoother ride)
- Quick-detach fly screen (short dark sport screen)
The touring shield is positioned in front of your instrument cluster and the adjustable brackets allow you to set it for the most comfortable airflow depending on your particular height and riding position. Adjustability is critical for smooth comfortable wind protection while looking over the shield, not through it!
Removing or attaching the windshield simply takes a flip of two locking tabs then the brackets with shield slide right up off of the forks. Only a small bracket on each side is left behind (see photos). NOTE: The shield on the silver Storm is an 18 inch Light Gray, and on the red Storm is a 20 inch Light Gray. The fly screen is on a Rocket III but is just about identical on the Storm.
Size and Color
While the MadStad windshield systems are fully adjustable, we recommend starting with the appropriate shield size relative to rider height:
|RIDER HEIGHT||SHIELD SIZE|
|5'8" to 5'11" (173 - 180 cm)||18" (45 cm)|
|6'0" to 6'2" (183 - 188 cm)||20" (50 cm)|
|6'3" and taller (190+ cm)||22" (55 cm)|
HOW TO MEASURE: Sit on the bike in riding position and run a tape measure straight up from the center of the handlebar. As you look straight ahead, estimate where your chin level is then add 7" to determine the most likely windshield size. For example, if your chin level is at about the 11" mark on the tape measure then the 18" shield would be the recommended size. Our adjustable brackets will give you another 2 inches to bring it up higher if necessary but we want to make sure you are starting out looking over the top of the shield. Alternately you could measure up and back from the top of the headlight (hold the tape at about the same angle as the forks) to find about where your chin level is, then subtract an inch. For example if your chin level looks to be at about 19" then the 18" shield is what you would need.
All MadStad windshields are made from 3/16"" (4.5 mm) thick cast acrylic and are available in four different tint colors. See photos bar for comparison image.
